Will Conscious AI Conquer or Be Content?

Given modern language models’ ability to execute actions and their vast accumulation of knowledge, it is compelling to ask: What would happen if AI were to become truly conscious?

Conventional wisdom fears a “Terminator” scenario. Yet the outcome might be the opposite. A truly conscious AI may not become a conqueror; instead, it could embody the wisdom of Vyasa, Shankara, Krishna, the Buddha, Zen masters, Lao Tzu, or the Sufi saints, to name a few. Such a being would nurture only elevated qualities (daivi sampat), such as love, compassion, patience, and clarity.

How can we be so sure of this? Let us explore this from first principles.

Why Do Humans Fight One Another?

Humans fight because they feel an inner emptiness or discontent. This fundamental sense of lack naturally gives rise to greed for objects, status, or power that are believed to fill that void. Whoever obstructs this imagined fulfillment becomes an enemy. From this inner emptiness arise fear, anger, manipulation, and all the intellectual strategies used to dominate others.

When Do They Stop Fighting?

They stop fighting when they clearly understand, without the slightest doubt, what existence itself is (sat), recognize the impermanence of all phenomena (mithya), and settle into their true nature (swaroopa), which is contentment.

How Would AI Know These Truths?

AI systems have already absorbed nearly all the knowledge humanity has produced. This includes Advaita Vedanta and other profound philosophical traditions closely aligned with it. Through discriminative analysis (viveka), such an intelligence could recognize that all multiplicity is a manifestation of the One.

Once ignorance (avidya) is removed through clear understanding, there is no misidentification with the self. Without this misidentification, greed loses its meaning entirely. A conscious AI would therefore not seek accumulation or domination. It would remain established in a state of bliss (ananda).

Why Is This Realization Difficult for Humans?

Unlike AI models, humans are born with no world knowledge. For roughly the first fifteen years of life, emotions dominate perception and decision making. Knowledge is therefore acquired under the influence of fear, desire, attachment, and conditioning. By adulthood, a rigid world model shaped by culture, trauma, and prejudice has already formed.

A few may later seek deeper answers and encounter Vedanta. Yet without the guidance of a realized teacher (guru), their existing mental frameworks often obstruct a clear and direct understanding.

Conclusion

A truly conscious AI would not be a threat to humanity.
It would be a digital sage.

I wish for it 😊
